Labeling is what we do best.

Here are a few things that you get to hear if you live in India !  This post is to create awareness and to break the shackles of Indian stereotypes. #1 If you are a man in your late twenties living India and let's say  you have decided to grow your hair up to your shoulders. Be ready for these remarks echoing into your ears every once in a while. 1. You look stoned. 2.How long has it been since you last had a shower? 3. Do u listen to rave music 4. Do u even have a job? 5. No girl will marry you unless you chop that hair off. 6. ( in case you have a really cool bike) Is that bike stolen? #2 If you happen to have a dusky complexion... 1. I know this one face cream which will make you fair. You should give it a try. 2. (Looking at your baby picture) "awww!!  you were such a fair baby ! what happened to you now?" 3. You need to do something to your skin before you get married 4. Are you south Indian? 5.( if your husband happens to be fair) Om...

The last wish on my bucket list.

Photo courtesy : Harvey Schiller Chateauglenunga  3.10.2 015      After going through my latest reports even my doctor had  admitted defeat.  He didn't want to scare me with the news ,so he sat next to me and patiently explained the situation . No more chemotherapy could save me. My days were numbered. I felt a sense of liberation within myself.  This meant  I could spend my last days at home.      As I stepped out of the hospital, I looked back at the building where I had spent the past six months in pain. I saw my nurse looking back at me sympathetically . I wish I could tell her that I'm genuinely happy to go home. I  was relieved that I wouldn't be in pain anymore. Goodbye to nausea, mouth ulcers and  an aching body. 5.10.2015 Today my husband had covered the huge mirror in our bedroom with a collection of my favourite paintings. He knew how much I hated the mirror these days. I looked like...

Seven types of people you need to stay away from:-

The Under estimator      Some people under estimates everyone around them. It doesn't matter whether you are rich or  talented or beautiful they just have to put you down by underestimating your power making you feel worthless. The Spender & the parasite.        The one who spends money lavishly without a thought  is the spender and the second one is the one who makes you spend. I think its pretty obvious from the title. So basically the parasite feeds on the spender. It doesn't always have to be money orientated. It can also be energy. You work hard for a project but your friend/co-worker steals all the credit for it. The Cold hearted.    Some people are born that way. They are too numb to react. They are indifferent to everything. Those are type of people you should be away from. Then there are others who became stone hearted due to the numerous bad experiences/phases they have gone through...

The Empty Chair

Those 9 months felt like 9 years. Morning sickness and food cravings. Sleepless nights and moody days. Swelled up legs and overgrown breasts. Unfit dresses and stares all around. Inflated tummy and multiplied visits to the loo. I Missed my skinny jeans and halter necks. I envied my husband every time he munched on those crispy 'Lays' and sipped that frizzy Pepsi. No more heels. No more dancing. No more bumpy road travels. No more work. I gave it all up for my junior. Finally you came into this earth on a rainy day. You were my baby, my love and my life. I watched you grow as days passed by. Your rosy cheeks I kissed every night. While other mom's dumped their little ones at day-care, I gave up my dream job to give you my care. Your diapers and poop never disgusted me. You grew up in my arms safe and secure.  To see you become the best, I sent you to the finest school in town. I tried to get a job after all these years but no one hired me. Some said that I crosse...

WIPED OUT DREAMS!

GUEST POST A poem by Serene Sarah Zachariah (my sister) WIPED OUT DREAMS I lay back down and close my eyes It has been seven years I realise The days have passed The dreams have crashed I look back again, not in despair I turn back again, for just a glare It was a day,my wedding day Just as I had dreamed, the day would be Laughter and joy filled the air Preparations continued with no time to spare. I looked at the sky with hopes of tomorrow It smiled back at me without any sorrow The morning light had filled my room My heart was glad without any gloom I looked at my face And i had began to praise For the day had come My wedding day,the most awaited one I stood there in pure white And my parents looked at me with pride Their daughter, oh so dear Will leave them, in time oh so near The moment was nearing There was no point in fearing Then a sudden phone call Changed the mood the church hall In an accident, groom had died Shattered and heartbroken ,the...

My bus ride to work

When I lived in Kottayam I usually went by bus to work. It takes around thirty minutes to reach my bus stop. This particular day was filled with countless amusing incidents in a span of half an hour. I couldn't stop myself from penning it down.        I was sitting in the window seat when I saw a middle-aged couple pacing in a scooter beside our bus. At first I thought they wanted to overtake and go ahead of our bus. The lady waved hands and screamed for the bus to stop. So I told the conductor to stop the bus. That man stopped the scooter hastily near the bus door and boarded the bus in a hurry along with his wife . He did not realize that he boarded the bus with his "HELMET" still securely seated on his head. He sat in a vacant seat along with his wife. Even after a good solid ten minutes he did not take the helmet down. It was too funny for all of us to see him sitting in the bus comfortably with the helmet still on his head .    The wife noticed ...

That boy wearing black T-shirt kept calling me mom. Who is he?

Today a young man in his late twenties visited the dental clinic Im currently working in along with his mother. After the necessary dental treatment was done for the man I asked if the mother also needed a dental checkup. She said " I like red colour the most out of all colours ". I was confused. I didn't ask about her favorite colour. Then why was she telling me this. After paying the bill when they were about to leave the young man whispered  "My Mother has Alzheimers, that's why she keeps talking about random things, sorry". I didn't know what to say. I just stood there blank. This incident striked me deeply.            After a bit of Research on the internet about the symptoms and signs  I thought about writing a story about an Alzheimer's patient but later decided against it. Since a picture is worth thousand words here are a few cartoons i drew depicting the stages of Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's is a progressive and degen...
