Marketing these days is all about making you panic. Every email says "Last chance!", "Hurry before it’s gone!", or "Only a few left!", as if missing a sale is some huge disaster.
Brands create fake urgency to make you buy things right away. A new phone comes out, and suddenly, everyone "needs" to pre-order it—even though their old phone works perfectly fine.
It’s stressful.
It’s making people spend money they don’t need to.
Now, look at Instagram influencers. One month, they say a handbag is their absolute favorite. The next month, they’re raving about a new pair of shoes. If you listened to them all year, your closet would be stuffed with trendy things that go out of style in no time.
And it’s not just fashion—it’s everywhere.
Fitness influencers: One week, they swear by a protein powder. Next week, it’s a totally different brand. Follow them for a year, and your kitchen will be full of half-used supplements.
Beauty influencers: One day, they say a Korean toner is the secret to glowing skin. A month later, it’s a retinol serum. Keep up with them, and your bathroom will be packed with products you barely touch.
This "buy now, or regret later" mindset is exhausting. Most of the time, it’s just clever marketing disguised as friendly advice.
Next time an influencer says "You NEED this!", take a second to think—do you really?
